About me

On a spiritual journey to India in 2003, I came across the Integral Theory work of Ken Wilber. It had a profound impact on me and later led me to study advanced Integral at Fielding University, becoming an Integral Master Coach and an associate Lectical coach. I was leading an integral salon in Oslo, and later co-led a 20-month ego development program for a group of Zen practitioners.

In 2015 I was ordained a priest in the order of Rinzai Zen. I later served as the officer coordinator and Mondo Zen Koan Process facilitator in several weeklong Zen retreats. In addition to my main path Zen, I have also practiced Chan, Mahamudra and Dzogchen.

I have a professional background as a research scientist with a master’s in mathematical statistics. Due to my interest in Integral Theory and vertical development, I have done work into the nature of assessment criteria for ego-developmental sentence completion technology, in professional engagements for Dr. Susanne Cook-Greuter, Vertical Development Academy and Harthill Consulting Limited.

In my working with people, I brings together my background in Integral Theory and praxis, coaching trainings, contemplative practice and professional research. I am passionate about human growth and development, applying spiritual and psychological practices that are theoretically and empirically grounded.

I have known Kristian since 2017, first as a Zen teacher, then as a student of ego development theory and as a user of the MAP (my assessment instrument for ego maturity). I hired Kristian in 2019 to use my data to determine up-dated cut-off numbers for it. I was very happy with his professional consulting services and this rigor as a statistician. Moreover, we have become dear friends over the years in a small group of monthly Zen meetings. I can now heartily recommend him as a sensitive and developmentally-informed debriefer of the LM-ai, an excellent alternative to the MAP.

My Approach

As a member of the International Consortium of Integral Scholars, in the spring of 2025 I was asked to peer review an article about a new AI assisted method for assessing ego developmental stages. I was very impressed with the ethical and professional rigor behind this approach, and I realized this was something I had been waiting for.

I have since been studying and learning about this assessment and report, as a debriefer and through many dialogues with the core team at LeadershipMaturity, who is the company offering the assessment.

One benefit of using AI is that the assessment and report can be delivered at a much lower cost than traditional manually based approaches. However, the human debrief is crucial, which AI can not replace, and an assessment and report is not offered without the subsequent debrief.

In my approach I always emphasize that we understand the developmental assessment in a useful way. We are always exacty and fully where we are right here, and at the same time we can enjoy the ride towards embracing more goodness, wisdom, compassion and healthy contribution to our fractured world.
